WALRUS RIP-OFF
For seminar this semester we all have to participate in this gigantic projection-mapping project based on the works of Lewis Carroll. My idea was to set up the facade to look like a level from pacman, except have all the dots be oysters, and pacman be a chomping walrus.
BUT I didn’t exactly have a ton of time to execute this, so I ripped off frames from an existing animation. POINTS to whoever can figure it out., and here a tip: it wasn’t originally a walrus.

TRANQUILITY HOLE
2 weeks ago I noticed a narrow recess in between the cubicles at USC, so I shoved my head in there to see what it was all about. I’ve been working on my thesis for over a year now, and my brain is starting to look for other projects to focus it’s attention on, so I ended up fixating on this:

Original measurements and Concept art.
I wanted to make the 7.5″-wide recess a vacation for the brain, and I also didn’t want to spend any time or money, so I made a mural for the back wall, used some old christmas lights, styrofoam, t-shirts and ugly party beads. Katie helped convert the beads into a bead curtain:
Here it is after the install:

Installation help from Andrew Malek.
Now, with my dream realized and my legacy at USC securely fixed, I can move back to thesis reinvigorated and distraction-free.

Airboat Animation Reference
A sampler from some of the footage my mom helped me capture last December:
Now I just need a voice actor.

2014 Work-Space Update
In the grand tradition of procrastination-motivated blog posts, here is another update of the at-home workstation I spend all of my waking hours on. It’s an makeshift double desk Katie and I put together out her Otis desk, a filing cabinet, and of two planks of wood left over from Danger Island.

COLORING COMING IN
Getting shots back from my colorists! Thesis is slowly solidifying.
Finished this shot today. It’s right after Bill’s hand get’s crushed in the bottle and it explodes all over the boat, then the engine starts to rev off screen. That’s why Bill is making this ‘WHUUUUH?” expression. Trivia: Bill was originally named Cachorro, based on some stories about an exterminator I had heard from my grandfather. But in my research I learned that cachorro(a) mean puppy, or cub, and it didn’t seem to fit any more. So I ended up naming him after one of my and Katie’s uncles.
