RETROACTIVE MISCELLANIA

-crate

I animated that bad boy without planning my spacing, and without reference. Either making crates bob violently in water is EASY, or I have a knack for crate bobbing. (It’s easy.)

Smoke, on other hand, I have no knack for. Turns out I really suck at it, actually. I broke down this tiny portion from the Cowboy Bebop intro frame by frame:

From 10s to 13s. I actually copied the frames almost exactly, but it didn’t work out. This is the way animation has worked for me so far, sometimes shots just make sense, and other times it’s like hammering a rock. But I didn’t get frustrated- because for the last 12 days, this was my view while I was animating:

Spent the last week and a half in North Carolina, where I discovered how good iphones are at taking macro-photography. That’s my segue into posting a bunch of pictures of bugs:

This beetle hissed. Those fan antennae were blowing my mind.

And the last two images I have no segue for. One is another photo of that cloud floor I just posted a video of, and the other is a graph I found online a couple of months ago. It’s just burning a hole on my desktop and I don’t know what to do with it, but I really like those stars all over it. So it just goes on the blog for now.

Those stars are great, right?

BACK IN L.A.

12 hours of travelling to get from NC to California,  I took this video on the plane to Atlanta. I don’t think it looks real, and that’s one of my favorite things.  I’m gonna take a day to readjust, but then right back to it. Feeling revitalized.

Some retroactive progress posts to come.

TORRENTS AND ICONS

lizardpalm

Cement hand print I made when I was a baby, now the final resting place for Curly Tail remains.

A couple of days ago I was walking the dog when I took a shortcut through the alleyway. In my backyard I found this- the most metal image that I’ve ever come upon in natural circumstances. A curly tail’s dying act was to crawl into a cement tomb that was formed by my hand when I was a toddler. I think it’s a sign, and I eagerly await my lizard powers.

I’ve only been here a week and that’s just the beginning! There’s wild growth everywhere, huge skies, lizards crawling on everything, a resurgence of green anoles, I smell like a pool and there are torrential downpours EVERY DAY:

I LOVE FLORIDA.

F-HEAD ROBASTRONAUT

fhead robot

A robot doodle for a CD my mom is giving out when she goes to hang out with her old graduate school buddies in a couple weeks. (She went to grad school for photography, and I just watched Pacific Rim.)

Also- my mom and I were messing around with some computer parts and an figurine she has, taking part in one of my favorite passtimes: making small stuff look big-

HOME 2013

20130720-132703.jpg

Here’s my mini workstation for while I’m back at home from the next few weeks.
I’m taking the week off to maintain my sanity. I’ve retooled my whole thesis production schedule to have a week off every 5 weeks. Before it was almost a year of uninterrupted work. I was starting to get panicky. But being at home has been very calming. Air is thick with heat and humidity. There are lizards and new growth everywhere. Here’s the view from my desk:

You can’t tell, but this is the 5 minute calm between two torrential downpours. I didn’t realize how much I missed this.
